New Years Soiree

I love the idea of having an elegant party to celebrate the new year. Although I'll be celebrating by watching the fireworks at Epcot from my hotel in Disney World {my sister is playing soccer down here this weekend, and I came along with the fam!}, I love looking at ideas and parties that event planners have put together.

My favorite party that I've stumbled across is this Pop, Fizz and Sparkle party that was featured on the blog Sweet Designs by Amy Atlas.

I love the unexpected pop of colors and the adorable dessert table!

This party from  The TomKat Studio is supposed to be for a 30th birthday celebration, but I think that it could work just as well for a New Years celebration! I love the elegant, girly theme that this party has!

How are you celebrating New Years?

New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone!!

For 2012, I've chosen 5 major resolutions for me to stick to:

*Keep up with blogging and make it my priority. I've come up with a new organization system that will help me organize topics and posts and ensure that I'm posting more on a regular basis, that I will discuss in a later post. I really want this blog to be a way for me to look back on things that I've been through year after year, and the new year is a perfect time to start taking blogging seriously. I want my readers to get to know me better and to get to know all my readers as well!

*Read 30 books for pleasure

*Get more into my Etsy shop

*Drink more water!

*Be more diligent about saving money.

Of course I have so many more goals that I hope to accomplish this year, but I've held myself to 5 key resolutions that are the most important to me. I can't wait to check in periodically throughout the year and see if I've stuck with my resolutions!

What are your goals for this year? I would love to hear about what other people are striving for in 2012!

Christmas Eve!

Today my day will be filled with:

-Picking up food for Christmas day
-Running some last minute errands ;)
-Wrapping gifts
-Going on the hunt for a fur vest {I decided a couple of days ago that I needed to wear one for Christmas and have been looking for one last minute!}
-Lots of relaxing by reading in front of the fire place
And last but not least....
-Getting ready for Christmas Day! We are having some family friends over for lunch/dinner {luner? dunch?} and then we're all heading out to the movies together, another Christmas tradition.
I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas!

Anyone know what cute Christmas movie that line is from?

Every year my sister and I make it a point to celebrate not only Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but also Christmas Eve Eve, which is, as the name states, the eve of Christmas Eve. It comes from one of our favorite Christmas movies that we've watched every year since we were little, Eloise at Christmastime.

The movie is about a free-spirited six-year old girl who lives in the Plaza Hotel in NYC {how fabulous!} and follows her on all her adventures at Christmastime. It's cute and comical and definitely something that I look forward to every year!

As you may have guessed, I'm writing this post as my sister and I watch this and pretty much quote every other line--one of our favorite Holiday traditions.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve to  everyone :)

Holiday Preparations

Pretty decorations for Christmas cookies
An elegant candy cane decked out in pearls
Cute cookies
Chaz, our Elf on the Shelf riding on our reindeer stocking holder...My sister and I are both well over the typical Elf on the Shelf age, but we still get a kick out of hiding him in various locations for one another. There's nothing like opening the fridge in the morning and seeing an elf looking at you from behind a bottle of orange juice...
We FINALLY finished decorating the tree and have put the first presents underneath. I think Christmas trees are just so pretty and am in love with the way ours turned out this year.
Pretty candles and frosty potpourri

Hope everyone is getting ready for a fabulous holiday season!

Oh Christmas Tree

This weekend my family and I went to get our Christmas tree. In previous years we would actually go to a tree farm and cut down our own tree, but due to timing this year, we had to settle for picking one out from a standard tree lot. It was still just as fun though, and after buying the tree it really started to feel like Christmas. Now it just needs to snow and I will be completely content!

My little sister "claiming" our tree {she thinks she's funny... ;)}

Hope you guys had a great start to the week and good luck to everyone taking finals!!

P.S. I finally found a copy of The Lucky One that I talked about here. It was sold out when I went to the bookstore the first time, but I finally got my hands on it. Can't wait to start reading it!

Literature Love

I was browsing various websites earlier tonight, when I came across the trailer for The Lucky One starring Zac Efron.

This movie is based off of a Nicholas Sparks book of the same name. Now having been a huge fan of The Notebook and The Last Song, I immediately put this movie on my must-see list for when it comes out next year, but I've also convinced myself that I need to rush out to Barnes and Noble tomorrow before I head off to work so that I can pick it up and start reading it. If it's anything like the trailer and other Nicholas Sparks books, I can guarantee that it will have me sobbing in all the right places and being completely jealous of a love story between two fictional characters. I'll be sure to keep you all updated!

What are some Nicholas Sparks books (or any book for that matter) that you would recommend?

Have a great weekend,

P.S. I'm in the process of compiling a 101 in 1001 list and reading for enjoyment is definitely on there. I'll let you know when I get it finished :)

Help A Sister Out!!

I am {obviously} new to this whole blogging thing. That being said, if anyone has any design tips, whatsoever, {mainly on how to make my side bars a little less blah} they would be greatly appreciated. I'm still learning the ins and outs of Blogger and could use any help that I can get :)

Thanks as always,

Giving Back

One of my favorite things about this time of year is the idea of giving to others. I am incredibly blessed and fortunate to live the life that I do, and I really make it a priority throughout the whole year, not just during the holidays, to give back to others who need it.

When my sister and I were younger we would actually organize our own toy drives. We would print up fliers and then pass them out around our neighborhood to explain that we were collecting toys for the Salvation Army. Even when I was little I could remember how good it felt when another toy was dropped off at our house, knowing that I'd get to give it to someone else who may have never been able to have that toy otherwise.

Now, every year my family signs up through a local organization to buy gifts for a family that can't afford them. We are supplied with a list of things that the other family is in need of and then my family goes shopping and wraps all the gifts before delivering them to the organization that will take them over to the family just in time for Christmas!

Besides wrapping presents {I would gladly wrap gifts for days and days}, I love looking at the list and walking through various stores trying to find the perfect item that will fulfill the requests. Over the weekend I went shopping with my family and helped pick out some gifts. It felt so good to know that something so simple such as a Barbie or a sparkly shirt, things that I always took for granted, were what other people were looking forward too and that I could help give them that excitement on Christmas Day when they unwrap their gifts.

There are so many ways to help others this time of year:
- You could organize a drive of your own or simply donate to one that is being held. Toys for Tots usually has donation bins set up in several places and food pantries are always in need of supplies during this time of year.
- Drop your spare change off in those famous Salvation Army red kettles that are interspersed throughout every town.
- Donate your time. Help out at a nursing home, tutor at your local elementary school or offer to walk and play with dogs or cats at an animal shelter.

Take this time to remember how lucky you truly are!
Hoping everyone has a lovely holiday season,

Favorite Five

Hello everyone, sorry I've been gone for so long, no excuses, but I'm planning on posting on a regular schedule from now on.
Today I thought I would name some things that I've been enjoying this week!

1. Cute new products that I'm lusting over from the boutique that I work at

Definitely love this quote and love the sparkles on these bracelets

2. Christmas Decorations
My family almost has all of our decorations put up, although we still have to buy our tree! I love decorating for the holidays with a fire burning, candles light, and some classic holiday songs playing throughout the house! In my opinion, there really is nothing better during this time of year {unless of course, it is snowing!}

3. Etsy
Just like Pinterest, Etsy is a site that I could browse for hours and have the day dwindle away in front of me as I find adorable handmade items. I've become so in love, in fact, that I've decided to start my own shop. Right now I'm currently selling a few Christmas cards and I'm adding more daily. If you are looking for something little to add to a gift or send to a friend I would love for you to check out my Etsy shop, Lisi & Lilly. Also, if there is anything particular that you would like to see me make, I would LOVE to take your suggestions!! {Sorry for that shameless plug} But aside from my own shop, every time I visit Etsy, I find myself in a constant struggle to not buy everything that I click on.

4. Reading other blogs
I love reading other blogs as much as I love writing for mine, and finding a new blog that I connect with and have a desire to go back through and read every archived post is like Christmas morning in my opinion. Some of my current favorites are:
LoLu Fully Loaded {she also has a YouTube channel where she does beauty vlogs. I think she is gorgeous and that this is such a great supplement to her blog!}
Anticipation! This is a blog that I've just recently found and love following along with Taylor's life. She's also a fantastic artist.
Sequins and Stripes Such a great fashion blog!
Life In Grace I love this blog so much. Check out her house tour; I've decided that I need to live there one day.
Momma Rake Melissa is a "mom blogger" {could ya tell from the name of her blog? ;)} and I think that she has the most adorable children and style. She's currently on a blogging break, but she'll be back next year!
The College Prepster This is one of the very first blogs that I started reading after my sister showed it to me. I remember getting back from class one day last year and going through every single post because I just couldn't get enough.

5. Relaxing!
Right now I'm loving the fact that I'm on break from Thanksgiving until after New Years. I'm sure I'll regret this later in the summer when I'm still taking finals in June and all my friends back home are catching up and getting together, but for now I'm enjoying the time that I have off and not having any assignments looming over my head.
