My Year According to Instagram

2012 was such a wonderful year full of so many new and different experiences for me. It's been great to look back on everything I've been through, but at the same time I'm looking forward to the clean slate that New Years always seems to provide.

Hope everyone has a great time celebrating tonight!!

What I've Been Up To....

Nothing but trouble and taking selfies of myself, as usual.

First of all I sent in my application for Hoarders. Kidding, of course, but I did clean out a bunch of junk that I had no purpose of holding onto. While it was tough to convince myself that I indeed did not need to keep a Victoria's Secret Catalog from 2008 and that stashing Nordstrom shopping bags serves me no known purpose, in the end I was proud of my ability to part with these things. I'm basically a new person...

I've discovered that I absolutely DETEST waterproof mascara.
A: It never, ever, not in a million years comes off.

B: Because it never comes off, I don't get the pleasure of hopping out of the shower and scaring myself with raccoon eyes.

And C: I prefer to wake-up in the morning with the aid of coffee--not because my eyelash curler gets stuck to clumps of old mascara and rips all my lashes out.

{Side note: As I write this post, I'm sitting here pulling all the old mascara off my lashes. Beauty is pain, my friends.}

And finally, I laughed so hard I cried at this post, written by the witty Lauren M. Hughes. I am the biggest people-Googler out there. I do it. All. The. Time. Some may call it being a Nosy Nellie, but I simply prefer to refer to it as having a healthy dose of curiosity.

I hope everyone is enjoying their winter breaks and has a great holiday!

If you're anything like me, you still have some most of your Christmas shopping to do. I have been working at the boutique like crazy lately so it's been hard for me to get out and shop around. I've made a couple of purchases online, but other than that, I still have plenty left to purchase. If you're a last minute shopper like I am, here are some gift ideas!

Hope this helps you with your shopping. Check back tomorrow for some ideas on stocking stuffers {my favorite things to buy}!

All I Want For Christmas

All I Want For Christmas

// Sweater // Pants //
// Clarisonic // Boot Socks // Purse //
// Wallet // Headband // Pajamas //
// Bracelet // Planner //

Here's a few selections from the Christmas list I've been compiling on Pinterest this year.
I'm all in favor of filling up my list in order to give friends and family several options while shopping ;)

When I was younger I put together PowerPoints, complete with photos and URLs for every item, of course. One year I even taped my eight-page list to the mantle so that Santa could come on his own time and check out everything I wanted. Plus it made for killer d├ęcor around the house, so you know, there’s two birds out with one stone!

 Now that I have my own list pretty solidified, I'll be moving on to buying gifts for others. Make sure to check back later on in the week for some gift guides that I've put together!

Finals Made Me Fat

Hello world, I am alive and kickin' after an insane week{s} of finals. Honestly, with the amount of work that I had to do, you would think that I'm double majoring in pre-med and law, but I promise I'm still a PR major.

{Thrilled to be studying, naturally}

I mean, I can guarantee that I gained 500 pounds over the past two weeks and that my body hates me now, but school is over for seven weeks, so it's whatever, right?

But then it was Thanksgiving, where I evened out those 500 pounds that I previously gained and added on another 500 more.....

So that's where I leave you all. My brain is now physically incapable of holding anymore information in it {at least for a little while} and starting today I'm only eating green vegetables, chewing gum or drinking water {I joke, I joke}.

I have some fun things and posts coming up for the Christmas season, but in the meantime, I'm back and still just as sarcastically sassy.

Handwriting

One of my favorite blogger/designers, Katelyn, participated in this handwriting link-up a couple of days ago.

I immediately went over to Joelle's blog, looked at the posts from everyone else who participated and knew that I wanted to join in!

So it's not gorgeously beautiful, like Katelyn's or Joelle's and I've realized that I seriously struggle with writing in straight lines, but hey, what can you do?

Write it Down

Write out your name, signature, location & a favorite quote and link up! Leave me a comment with your with the link to your post down below too, so I can creep on your penmanship!

November Goals

So somehow it's November now, even though I swear 2012 just started yesterday. This month is going to be brutal for the next two weeks, but then only bring fun things once I wrap up finals and head to the suburbs for seven, glorious weeks of winter break.

This November I vow to:

- Not procrastinate on school work, finals, papers and studying. Starting early will make my life a lot easier.

- Confront my roommate about issues instead of being passive aggressive {one of my worst traits}

- Go to the gym at least four times a week {so far, so good!}

- Budget my money more carefully

- Apply for internships next quarter

- Start something new

What's in My Bag: School Edition

I love seeing what other people carry around in their bags. It reminds me of when I was little and I would go over to a friend's house and be mesmerized by everything they had in their room. I could have looked around for hours. I'm sure that's super nosey of me, but oh well!

For a school tote, I carry a large Longchamp in pink. I feel as if it's kind of like a Mary Poppin's bag...I just keep putting more and more stuff in it and there's always room.

1. Vera Bradley Pencil Pouch in Mocha Rouge - This thing is packed. I keep every color highlighter and pen, backups of my favorites (see #3), my flash drive and an eraser in here.

2. Makeup Bag - I believe this was a freebie from the La Prairie counter at NM, but it works. I keep all the essentials in here: Advil, hair brush, compact, make-up blotters, and OF COURSE, hand sanitizer

3. This is pretty much everything that I keep in the little side pouch of my bag. Headphones are necessary for trips to Starbucks or the gym, and I always have at least one (usually more) chappystick on me. This one happens to be Burts Bees Pink Grapefruit, which is amazing. As I mentioned earlier, I keep my favorite pens tucked in the small pocket of my Longchamp in case I need to reach for them quickly. (You can find them here, here and here). And last but not least, a pack of gum. If I have the choice, I prefer mints, but I've been having a hard time finding my favorites, so this works as a substitute.

4. Lilly planner and small notebook. I honestly don't think it's possible for me to go anywhere without my planner, and it's nice to have a journal to jot down thoughts, ideas and lists whenever they come to me.

5. Macbook

6. Burberry Wallet (From their Christmas collection a few years ago)

7. iPhone with Tory Burch hardshell case (The exact case is no longer available, but there are so many to choose from here!)

8. School ID, Apartment Key and CTA pass

You Win Again, Taylor, You Win.

As a person, I am not a fan of Taylor Swift. Sometimes her voice bothers me and sometimes I wonder if she somehow confused singing with acting because it just seems like she always likes to put on a show. But her songs....I always love them.

My favorite from Red?

A) It's about Jake Gyllenhaal and, well, there's that.
{Anyone with Jake connections, feel free to hook me up whenever....}

B) I love how specific the lyrics are. It tells a complete story in five minutes and is written so much better than 99% of the songs that are in the top ten on iTunes right now. I don't know about you, but I don't care to listen to some artist repeat the same three lines for the entirety of a song. Not creative or talented at all.

C) It's one of those songs that you can just listen to over and over and over again. And I have.

So Taylor, while I may not be a fan of your shocked-award-show-winning face, or I feel that you put on a show too much and you can make your voice do really weird things sometimes, you win with Red.

If It's Not Moving, Monogram It

I've been super obsessed with monograms, lately. My sister and I bought a roll of vinyl the other day and cut out a bunch of monograms with my Silhouette. I've already stuck one on my planner and plan to cover several other things in my initials.

As a result I've been dying to purchase some other monogrammed items. However, seeing how "Help me, I'm poor" is probably my most-quoted and relatable movie line at the moment, it looks like I'll be adding these items to my Christmas list...

Also, Happy Birthday to my momma, although she refuses to acknowledge that she's another year older...I love you!

Monograms :)

Getting Back on Track

Midterms completely took over my life for the past three weeks. Aside from neglecting sleep, I was pretty bad about making it to the gym and eating healthy during this time. I'm definitely looking forward to getting back into a routine and making more of an effort to take care of my body.

While working out is important to me, I definitely notice a huge difference with how I feel and how much energy I have throughout the day when I eat healthy. Plus, even if you are working out consistently, your hard work can easily be cancelled out by a poor diet.

An excellent resource I like turn to is Tone It Up. The complete diet plan is definitely pretty pricey {at $150, it's yet to be something that I purchase ;) }, but the website is filled with tons of great exercise & nutrition tips and motivation to get you back on the right track. If you sign up for their e-mail news letter, they'll send you free workouts and recipes as well!

I also plan on making a trip to Whole Foods and stocking up. I'm looking forward to picking up some health essentials such as coconut water, goji berries and protein powder. Can't wait to get back on a health kick and feel better overall!

Jello Legs

I volunteered at the Chicago Marathon this weekend, and although I watch it every year on TV, there's something about being there in person that makes you want to jump the fence and run alongside all the participants (although some people, I'm sure, would argue that they would want to run far in the opposite direction).

I was helping out at the very end of the course after the finish line, directing runners to various hospitality tents. I loved it because I got to see every runner who raced and it was amazing to see how many people accept the challenge of running 26.2 miles. There were people who looked like they had just warmed up and then there were people who were clearly in pain. But the people who got to me the most were those who looked like their legs were going to give out at any minute, but couldn't have been any happier because they just accomplished something that they thought they would never do. I want to be one of them someday.

There was one older man in particular who came in at the end of my shift. He was running with his daughter and she was holding a sign that said "My dad is 85. What's stopping you?"Well if that doesn't get you thinking, I don't know what will. It made me want to start training instantly.

Running a marathon is something that I thought only crazy people did. Sure I love running, but anything over 5 miles has always been considered torturous in my mind. Now I have a completely different perspective on it and I want to be one of those people crossing the finish line with an enormous (tired) smile and jello legs someday. It's definitely going on the bucket list!

Have you ever ran a marathon, or considered running one?

Outfits of Late

Going through recruitment a couple of weeks ago resulted in me posting never and having to come up with some pretty fab outfits throughout the past couple of weeks. There wasn't any "required" attire other than to dress up for pref round, so I had a lot of flexibility in choosing my outfits. Here's a glimpse into what I wore:

Scholarship Round:

(Obviously working it in this pic...haha)
Shirt: Ann Taylor
Scarf: Lilly Pulitzer
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Boots: Cole Haan

Philanthropy Round:
Shirt: Ralph Lauren
Leggings: V-Fish
Boots: Cole Haan

Sisterhood Round:
Shirt: Artizia
Jeans: Forever21
Boots: Cole Haan

Chapter Round:

Blouse: Francesca's
Jeans: Abercrombie & Fitch
Boots: Yet again, Cole Haan

Preference Tea:

Dress: Theme
Heels: Sam Edelman
Belt: J.Crew

And what I wore today, just for fun :)
Tank: Juicy Couture
Cardigan: J.Crew
Jeans: Forever21 (seriously my favorite pair haha)
Boots: Sperry Topsider

It's now pretty obvious to me that I, no doubt, find my favorites and stick to them (pearl earrings and riding boots, anyone?) I'm definitely going to try and be a little more "adventurous" with next week's outfit selections ;)

Just Because

Happy October!
Fall is officially in full swing, and I couldn't be happier. If I could live in this weather year-round, I would be in heaven.

A couple weeks ago my sister and I randomly decided to send each other some goodies, just because. I think we were more excited to see how the other person liked the gift we sent out instead of how we liked our own gift that we received ;)

My little sissy completely spoiled me and stocked me up with all the fall essentials!

This is what I sent out: A goodie from Lush, some pretty pink nail polish, Baby Lips, a Starbucks gift card {for PSL's of course} and a pretty card.

I loved that these gifts were totally random and helped to spruce up what would otherwise be a blah week full of schoolwork!

I'm Greek!

This past week I went through formal recruitment at my school {it's totally normal to go through as a junior, because my school is FULL of transfer students ;)}. As tiring as the process can be, I had a blast and am so glad that on Sunday I was able to join Delta Gamma!

It's been two days and I am already obsessed with everything DG. I can't wait for what the rest of the year has in store for me and my new sisters!

 DG lovin!

P.S. I'll definitely be doing an outfit post on what I wore for each day of recruitment, so be on the look out for that :)

Now Playing - Part 2

There's just something about those songs that are perfect to listen to in the fall, when it's crisp and chilly out and you're snuggled under a blanket sipping a latte. These are only a few of my picks, as my fall playlist is pretty lengthy, but these definitely are some of my favorites to listen to this time of year.

What are some of your favorite songs to listen to when the weather starts to cool off?

Happy First Day of Fall!

#Obsessed: Fall Clothes

This weekend was the last hoorah of warm weather in Chicago. I'm predicting that beginning this week, the weather will be little cooler, the air a little crisper and the leaves a lot crunchier.

I love fall. It's easily my favorite season. One of the main reasons for my affection for this season? The outfits. I've been scouring Pinterest (make sure to follow me if you don't!) to find some inspiration for the seasons ahead. Here's what I've fallen in love with.

Loving the comfy, cozy feel to this outfit. And of course no fall outfit would be complete without a warm PSL in hand :)

This is such a great way to transition some trendy pieces from summer into your fall wardrobe. I would have never thought that bright yellow and coral could be worn in the fall, but this outfit totally makes it work!

LOVE this! So classic.

I'm starting to sense a trend with the chambray...looks like I'll have to invest in one for myself!

Product Review: Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo

I've been having a problem lately with not being able to keep my hair clean for longer day. Second day hair has not even been close to an option for me, and it's been getting sooo tedious to wash, dry and straighten my hair every night. When I brought this problem up to my hair stylist, he recommended that I try Bumble and Bumble's Sunday Shampoo

It's basically just a super deep cleaning shampoo and will get rid of any extra dirt and oil that normal shampoo won't remove. The bottle says to use this only once a week {presumably on Sunday...}, but I use it two-three times because my hair gets oily quick. When I use this, I only have to wash my hair every other day, which is SO NICE!

This product has been a life saver for me. The first time I used this my hair felt so clean and as if I had just gotten back from the salon. I love it and would sincerely recommend it to anyone who is having a similar problem.

Fall Polished

I literally always have my nails painted. I kind of feel a little bit naked if I don't. Nails are just so much prettier with a little color.

Fall nail polish colors are always my favorite because they seem to work the best with my skin tone and hair color. Below are some of my favorites for the upcoming season.

Fall Polish

I'm currently wearing Size Matters and am in love. It's the perfect deep red for fall!

Branching Out

During the cold Chicago winters, I have a tendency to get in a pants rut. I'll wear dark wash jeans everyday with the occasional pair of black leggings thrown into the mix. After about ten days, this gets a little old, and I feel like I'm not really being creative with my outfits.

I've heard a lot about the J.Crew Minnie Pants and think they would be perfect for getting me out of this "rut". I love that I could possibly wear these to class, but that they could work for an internship just as well. I tried on a pair a while back and never purchased them, but now I think I'm about ready to jump on the band wagon, give my jeans a rest and buy a pair of Minnies.

Minnie Pants

Right now J.Crew has some perfect colors for fall! Of course I'm all about the navy, {honestly, probably half my closet is navy} but I also think that the burgundy and forest green colors are great for everyday too.
