review: adam block design

Adam Block Design was started in 2008 and ever since has been coming up with fantastic and unique Greek Gear based on their three beliefs of originality, happiness and awesomeness. These beliefs are truly evident in all that they do, from clothing to customer service.

What I love most about this site, is that they have a HUGE gallery of products to choose from when looking for inspiration for you next Greek product. Not only do they have tons of ideas already created for you, but they will work with you to come up with the perfect design for you and your chapter and won't stop working with you until you absolutely love what they've designed.

The folks at ABD were gracious enough to give me a cute American Apparel tank and the ever-popular fanny pack to try out, and I have to say, I'm impressed!

Here are a few other favorites from the gallery that I'm loving as well:

If you're looking for unique products that will stand out from every other chapter on campus, then ABD is the way to go!

christmas 2013

This year, my family and I had a relatively simple and relaxing Christmas. While getting dressed up And attending parties is fun, no doubt about it, there's something to be said about not having any plans and just relaxing at home.

The weekend before Christmas, my family and I headed into the city to do some last minute shopping and just enjoy how beautiful Chicago is this time of year. This has become one of my family's favorite traditions and it certainly did not disappoint this year. We had some great meals and I enjoyed finally having some time off of work to spend with my parents and my sister.

I had to work on Christmas Eve, but I came home to a nice meal of peppercorn steak and sweet potatoes prepared by my sister...definitely not a traditional Christmas meal, but so, so yummy. Afterwards we finished wrapping gifts and then sat in front of the fire watching the Santa Clause trilogy.

Christmas morning again was relaxing and simple. After waking up and opening gifts, we ate our standard Christmas morning pancakes and enjoyed mimosas before my dad got started cooking our traditional Christmas Day crown roast of pork, which is one of my favorite meals!

Usually on Christmas Day we head out to see a movie, sometimes with close family friends and sometimes on our own. This year we went solo as a family and saw American Hustle, which I enjoyed even if there were some parts where I had to pay close attention to be able to follow the story line. As everyone else seems to think, I thought Jennifer Lawrence was fantastic, and I always enjoy watching how flawlessly she is able to absorb a role and transform into any character. She really is a rare talent.

Afterwards we were pretty exhausted, so we just put together a puzzle that Santa delivered and soaked up the last of the holiday. It was a great Christmas that didn't require a lot of effort, which, in my opinion, is truly the best kind! Hope you all had a fabulous holiday as well!

holiday party dresses

The holidays are of course a time for showing off your sparkliest frocks and sequined sheaths, but for a social butterfly floating from one glamorous party to another throughout the month, it can be expensive to buy dress after dress. I've rounded up six dresses all under $100 that will carry you through the holiday party season. While I don't have any fancy fetes to attend this year, I would certainly choose one of these if I were heading to a holiday event!

Featured Favorites

I've been soaking up every minute of my days off of work at Nordstrom to get into the holiday spirit and make sure that my house is all decorated (My sister and I are always in charge of the holiday decor at home), but I've had plenty of time to catch up on some things around the web as well. Here's what I'm loving:

- Snuggling up in front of the fire with a cup of tea and watching total cheese ball Christmas movies. There is nothing better.

- I stumbled across an article titled "The 20 Things You Need To Let Go To Be Happy" and felt as if it was written specifically for me. As I've mentioned like a gajillion times before, I worry like it's my full-time job. This article serves as a wonderful reminder that life is not perfect and nothing is handed to you on a silver platter. It will forever be bookmarked for days when I'm feeling down.

- Still just as obsessed as ever with Carly. Her mindset, drive, ambition and overall story of how she turned The College Prep from just another blog into a brand is a complete inspiration to me.

- Dreaming of owning a stationery shop as perfect as Sugar Paper LA one day.

- And last but not least, I would like to take this time to wish you a Merry Christmas from my roommates and me (and I? That silly rule gets me every time).

christmas gift guide: stocking stuffers

Some of the best things come in small packages, which is one of the reasons why I LOVE opening my stocking on Christmas morning. Whether it's a fun pair of socks or a yummy lip scrub, stockings are the perfect way to gift small goodies!

christmas gift guide: the roomies

I live with four (sometimes five or six depending on who's staying over for the week) of my best friends. This year instead of trying to buy a nice gift for everyone while watching our wallets, we opted to do Secret Santa so that we only had to worry about buying for one person, ultimately ensuring that everyone will get a quality gift.

Since my school is on break for six weeks during the holiday season, and all of my roommates went home to different states, we're celebrating Christmas in the apartment after New Years once we all get back. None the less, I've been keeping my eye peeled for the perfect gift for my secret recipient ;). This list includes gifts for every one of my roommates from the sarcastic, coffee addict to the fashion and beauty obsessed. And we all love food with a burning passion, so including the macaroons was a no-brainer.

christmas gift guide: the parents

My parents are, without a doubt, the most difficult to shop for. Anything that I come across is either too similar to something they already own or just doesn't fit. Luckily I got a head start on browsing some gifts for them and found some real winners that I know they'd enjoy should they be under the tree on Christmas morning. These gifts have my seal of approval for the most hard-to-shop-for parents around!

Blogmas 2013

Blogmas is exactly what I needed at this point in my "blogging career" to help me get back on track! Similar to how YouTubers do "Vlogmas" every year, I'm participating in Blogmas and posting everyday from now until Christmas. Thanks to the fabulous Amy for starting this trend!

December Goals

Go to bed earlier >>> wake up earlier
I desperately need to get back into a regular workout routine. With working a demanding nine-hour retail shift nearly everyday, the only way that I'm going to be able to get enough sleep and still have time to workout before begin work everyday is to get used to a better sleep schedule. I'm forcing myself to go to bed before twelve every night and get up before eight at the very latest every morning.

Take real pictures for my posts
Not only do I want to make it a priority to post everyday, but I want to make sure that all my posts are original, fresh and creative. Something I've realized that makes me enjoy one blog over another is the real life pictures instead of generic pictures that anyone can find on Pinterest or Tumblr. I want my blog to represent me, of course, and the best way to do that is to use pictures from my daily life.

December Highlights

Christmas, obviously.
No explanation needed! This is hands down my favorite time of year, and I love everything from the decor, the music and the snow to buying gifts and watching tacky Hallmark Channel movies that you just can't tear your eyes away from.

Six week winter break
Looking forward to relaxing, working and saving up money for next quarter and spending the holidays at home with my mom, dad and sister!

Getting Crafty

Last week, my sorority celebrated big/little week and I was in heaven, crafting day in and day out. Living in an apartment with three other Delta Gammas led my living room to look like DG threw up. I'm not kidding when I say that our friends would come over to "shop" at our mini Michael's. I love anything DIY and love giving gifts even more, so I thought I would show you some of the presents that I made for my little over the past couple of months!

P.S. Since I was literally in my element with crafting all these gifts, and now that I have nothing left to make, I don't know what to do with myself and am thinking of opening an Etsy shop and listing these and similar items. What do you guys think? Would you be interested?

Lust List: A Little Bit of Everything

I have been sick this past weekend, which has left me with plenty of time to surf the web and online shop {so dangerous}. Some years around this season, nothing really catches my eye, but this year I'm loving everything and naturally I want it all! Good thing Christmas is coming soon, right?

The Greatest Time of Year

{Image via The Hunted Interior}

I am so glad that it's finally November and the celebrations that accompany the holiday season can finally begin! I know that so many people think that it's way to early to even begin paying attention to Thanksgiving and Christmas, but there is no time of year that I love more than this....it's literally my time to shine, people! I live for this!

I was working on homework at Starbucks a couple of days ago and couldn't have been happier to see their holiday cups out and ready to go. That red paper cup honestly boosted my mood so much and got me thinking what it is about this time of year that I literally spend the rest of the year looking forward to. Here are just a few of my favorites

Most Wonderful Time of Year
This is one of the super cheesy, made for TV movies that is only shown on the Hallmark Channel. My family teases me every time they  catch me watching this and my love for this movie has grown to the point where my mom will text me to alert me that it's on if she sees it while she's surfing the channels. Of course I love so many more holiday movies, which I'll definitely be discussing a little bit later on in the holiday season, but for some reason that I cannot explain at all, this one definitely takes the cake.

(Sad news: We don't get the Hallmark Channel on the cable in my apartment...looks like I'll be waiting until I visit home to watch this movie non-stop)

Bath and Body Works Winter

{starbucks drink}
Grande no whip skinny cinnamon dolce latte
Armed with this drink in a pretty red cup pretty much allows me to accomplish anything

{holiday cd}
Michael Buble's Christmas
No questions asked.

Sitting in front of a fire in a cozy blanket reading magazines or wrapping gifts

Putting up the tree
This is an art in our family. We all go to select a perfect, fresh tree and then my dad will bring it inside and hang up the lights. My mom will make popcorn and turn on Christmas in Connecticut and then my sister and I help her hang the ornaments. The finishing touch is for my mom to add ribbon to the tree. It's gone in this order ever since I can remember, and my family is so serious about it that we will wait until everyone is available to do their "jobs". We don't take this lightly!

Finally Fall!

I have no idea what is up with Chicago weather this year, but it hasn't even started to feel like fall until just yesterday. No matter how many times I pulled on my riding boots and threw a vest on over my button downs, the weather would just not cool down. Now that the temperatures are finally feeling like fall, I'm looking forward to wearing my go-to fall outfit, which might as well be dubbed "The J.Crew Uniform".

J.Crew Uniform

If I could wear this combo everyday, I completely would. It looks completely put together, but it's so comfortable that I might as well be wearing pajamas. I seriously can't get enough!

Inspiring People

The Everygirl has a recurring section on their blog where they will feature women who are extremely inspiring and not to mention, have really awesome jobs. I love their feature on the Editor-In-Chief of HGTV Magazine, Sara Peterson. It is my absolute dream to work for a magazine, and I've always been under the impression that if I don't have my foot in any type of magazine-related door by the time I graduate, then I have no chance.

This feature was so refreshing and it reassured me that there's no conventional way to make your way into the magazine industry. Plus I discovered that Sara and I share the same habit of hanging on to old Seventeen issues!

Another goal of mine is to one day start my own business. Whether it's been a stationery store, clothing boutique, or cupcake shop, I've always known that I eventually want to be calling the shots of my own store.

The Everygirl also has a piece featuring Dabney Lee Woglom, an amazing woman who opened up her own stationery shop after following her dreams and starting her own stationery line, much like I want to do one day. Seriously, these features are amazing and they truly offer great insight into how to break into so many different areas.

Regardless of what your future aspirations are, I encourage you to check out the Career Features section on The Everygirl. There are an endless number of inspiring and motivating features on admirable women. It could be just the kick in the pants you need to get going on your goals!

Monday Inspiration

I have a crazy busy week ahead of me full of classes and homework, recruitment, job interviews and deadlines. Not only is this week crazy, but I literally do not have a free weekend between now and Thanksgiving.

Sitting at my desk Sunday night staring at the growing to-do list in front of me, I started to freak out slightly. I am at a point in my life where things that I want and aspire to seem so far out of reach, and I'm unsure of what path to take to get to them. It's quite stressful actually.

When I start to freak out like this, I try to find something inspirational to remind me to keep chugging on before my mind spirals out of control. Thank goodness I stumbled across this list a few years ago!

This list has literally saved me SO many times throughout college. Every time I think I can't do something or I have absolutely no clue where to begin, I pull this up on my computer and read through it. My favorite tips?

- Press send.
I can't tell you the number of times that I put off sending an e-mail because I'm afraid of how the recipient will respond to my inquiry or I'm afraid of what could happen. Just send it!

- Step out the front door. With your running shoes on.
Nothing can re-inspire me like a good run. Not only do I usually come up with good ideas during my jogs, but they always put me in a great mood and after I shower, I'm always ready to tackle some sort of challenge that lies ahead of me.

- Quit looking at the competition.
I am notorious for comparing myself to others and it usually only ends in jealously or greed. Thankfully I'm learning to do what's right for me and only me, and to realize that my life is never going to be the exact same as anybody else's. It really is such a relief once I don't feel like I'm in a constant competition with someone else.

- Quit caring about what other people think.
Enough said.

Happy Monday everyone!

Tory Burch is coming out with a make-up line? Bye-bye bank account...

Wishing I could buy everything for my apartment from Layla Grace. Seriously I would be set.

Loving this app that helps me make sure I'm drinking enough water every day.

Playing this band on repeat, especially this song.

OBSESSED with Zoella, she is so gorgeous!

Compiling a 101 in 1,001 list, inspired by the fabulous Mackenzie from Design Darling.

Breaking out my fall playlists. It's a proven fact that Taylor Swift music is 10 times better in the fall than any other time of year, by the way.

It's True, I'm Two!

My little blog is officially two years old today! I can't be more thankful that I discovered the blog world and took the plunge to start my own. While it's more work than I could have ever imagined, blogging is something that I genuinely enjoy, love and look forward to everyday!

I started this blog my sophomore year of college when I was a little lost and didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, let alone in the next five minutes. I could have never guessed that I would still be with it two years later and that it would have helped lead me down a career path. I can't wait to see what's in store for With Love, Ellyse over the next few years, especially once I graduate and move on to "real life"!

Thank you so much to everyone who reads my ramblings. I love writing for this blog so much, and knowing that people care enough to read my random thoughts is such a great feeling that makes me want to keep this blog going forever!

The Keys to Surviving College

As tomorrow marks my last first day of school, I couldn't help but to share some of the advice that I've learned along the way about how to survive college. I had a rough start to what are commonly known as the best four years of your life, and that bout with turbulence during my freshman and part of my sophomore years sure taught me a lot, even if I couldn't see that at the time being. I can now say for certain that I wish I never have to leave! In fact, I glare at anyone who utters the s-word or the g-word {senior and graduation}. Here are some things I found that are essential to making sure that you make it through college:

  • Coffee - The crack of college students. It feels so cliche to put this on the list, but I mean, I can go through cups and cups of coffee. It's literally to the point where I crave coffee for the taste and not even the caffeine. That's when you know.... I am obsessed with my Keurig and legitimately could not live without it.
  • Have your mom on speed dial - Why yes, there was a time in my life when I could scroll through my call log on my phone and my mom's name was the only one in there. I would literally call her three-five times a day, no joke, with everything from questions about what kind of laundry detergent I should buy to pre-midterm meltdowns. Lucky for me she dealt with it all and still talks to me to this day ;)
  • Buy a planner and plan - Without my agenda I would be Castaway-lost in a world full of term papers and Her Campus deadlines. Sometimes I'll go through spurts where I don't write in a planner for a few days, and let me tell you, I am one shamble-y mess.
  • A killer studying playlist or TV series on Netflix that you're hooked on - I love having music or a TV show playing in the background while I'm studying, and it makes hours and hours of studying seem not as miserable. Coldplay and Jason Mraz both top my playlist, and I've been hooked on Friday Night Lights and Grey's Anatomy lately.

Update: Moving

I have been MIA lately and will continue to be away from my blog for a little bit due to moving into my new apartment. Between sorting through boxes that I packed up when I moved out of my old apartment last summer to picking what clothes, shoes and jewelry to bring with me or leave at home, I have been busy, busy, busy. I'll be back at the end of the week with more content, and I can't wait to share pictures of my new space!

P.S. How cute are these moving announcements from Ashley Brooke Designs?!

Lust List: Sweaters

On the Models: // Tobi // Brandy Melville {similar} //
// J.Crew // J.Crew // Top Shop // Zara {similar} //

Can we please forget the fact that it's 90+ degrees outside? It's that time of year when I'm over the summer heat and ready to move on to autumn weather. All I want to do right now is pull on a pair of leggings, throw on a soft sweater and layer a vest on top!

Although I presumably have a little longer to wait before I can pull of such an outfit, I've already been stocking up on sweaters for the long Chicago winter ahead. I've been loving oversized thick knits and soft sweaters that are just as comfortable as pajamas. I seriously can't wait for perfect autumn days!

2013 VMAs Recap

Last night MTV put aside their regularly scheduled programming of teenagers creating sketchy dating aliases and popping out babies to focus on their namesake: music. If you missed the VMAs last night, I'm sorry because they certainly impressed. I thrive off of celebrity gossip, so a night where you put a bunch of stars and their egos in one place? Heaven! Whereas most award shows tend to err on the boring side, last night's show was definitely anything but that. Let's recap shall we?

Let me begin with Lady Gaga's commonly strange performance where she embodied a nun and a stripper all in the span of 5 minutes. She is a good performer, but she will never cease to scare the crap out of me.

From there we can move on to Taylor Swift supposedly cursing One Direction while they presented an award.

Selena's eye roll is just too good. Guess Tay Tay isn't over her British "bad boy" quite yet.

Next up: Miley.......

I wish there were even words to describe this strange, drugged-Care-Bear-filled, Angelica-Pickles-resembling, on-the-verge-of-a-porno performance, but I can assure you, nothing in the dictionary even begins to cover it. Let me just say: I will never look at a foam finger in the same way ever again.

Oh sweet niblets....

Moving on.

Taylor wasn't done with her Harry Styles digs yet. When she went on stage to accept her the Best Female Video award for I Knew You Were Trouble, she sassily thanked a certain someone for inspiring her to write the song and thus allowing her to win the award. In the words of Damien, "she's fabulous, but she's evil". You go girlfriend. Just as long as we come to a collective agreement that cameramen across the world stop panning to her dancing in the audience during performances from now on. Please.

**Side rant: I would like to point out that it is impossible that Taylor wrote I Knew You Were Trouble about Harry Styles because the song was released in November and they were still dating the following January. I know this because I vividly remember sobbing over the fact that Harry Styles was not my New Years kiss. Tear, tear :'(

It only got better from here because next came the most important/relevant/mesmerizing/perfect event of the night: Justin Timberlake's performance.
He did this important/relevant/mesmerizing/perfect thing where he went back in time with his songs, eventually leading to a brief, albeit AMAZING reunion of *NSYNC. Twitter was absolutely FREAKING. OUT. It was like the best ten minutes of my entire weekend and I could not stop watching it over and over and over.

Other highlights?
- Lil' Kim was on something
- Couldn't tell if Kanye was performing or if my cable was just being spotty....Hope he doesn't sing that song to baby North as a lullaby :/
- Bruno Mars gave a great performance. Leave it to him to make a song about gorillas sound romantic....
- Katy Perry closed out the show with my jam, Roar. I was going ham dancing along in my basement.

And that, my friends, wraps up my 2013 VMAs recap.
What were some of the highlights of the show in your opinion?

Ten Things: What I Learned As An Intern

1. Music will always make the day go faster.
2. Coffe is key. Everyday.
3. No, you never will cease to have anxiety attacks when you notice a typo in an email you already sent.
4. ALWAYS specify time zones.
5. Anything you could ever want & need to know about Pinterest!
6. If you don't have at least 10 things on your to-do list, you're not busy enough.
7. Network, network, network!!!
8. If you don't know how to do it, roll with it...you'll figure it out.
9. If you don't stick to a schedule outside of work, your summer will fly by and you'll never get anything done.
10. What it's like to work in an area you're passionate about & enjoy going to work in the mornings!

This week marks the end of my summer internship. On Friday, I will be cleaning out my desk and tying up any loose ends on projects that I've been working for the past few months, making my list this week the perfect opportunity for me to reflect on all that I've learned. The internship that I had this year allowed me to work with social media, marketing, public relations and event planning, which couldn't have been a more perfect fit for me. Out of all three of the internships that I've had so far, this one has hands down been my favorite, and I'm so thankful for the opportunity that I've had to help out the company and gain knowledge and experience for myself!

DIY: Studded Clutch

When I was sent this Pink Spiked Clutch kit by Darby Smart, I couldn't have been more excited to try it out and design my own clutch!

Everything I needed to make this fun accessory came tucked in bright turquoise packaging complete with clever branding, which helped set this box apart from any other package in the mail.

The package included the wallet {available in pink or black}, two sizes of silver studs, glue, applicator and a metal tag to "brand" your clutch--such a cute idea!

I opted to use the smaller studs and create a small pyramid in the corner. I've always been kind of afraid of studs, thinking they make me look too edgy, but with the small studs and the subtle pattern, I really like how my clutch turned out! The site has so many other kits to choose from as well. I think the Gilded Votives or Monogrammed Coasters would be the perfect additions for my living room in my new apartment.

Let me know if you try one out!

Miracle Beauty Products

You know those beauty products that promise to give you bright, flawless skin, help you lose five pounds and even do your laundry for you? And then you slather some expensive cream all over your face that does none of the above, but instead makes you break out in some weird rash?

Yeah, these are not those products. These babies actually work and I can see myself purchasing these for the rest of my life; I swear by these four products!

This stuff is the Holy Grail of all acne products ever created. I've struggled {and still am struggling} with acne for years. It's no secret that I don't have the best skin in the world, and after trying what seems like every product on the market paired with numerous trips to the dermatologist's office with no success, I was just about ready to throw in the towel when I wandered into Sephora one day and thought I would give this little bottle a shot.

Not only does it help keep acne at bay, but the Glycolic acid does wonders to get rid of any scarring that you may have! Seriously, I love this product so much that when my brand new bottle of it dropped on my bathroom floor and shattered, I scooped up as much of it as I could and put it into a travel bottle. I'm addicted and I will never use another acne product again!

This is the scrub of all scrubs. It's actually just grains in a bottle, so you just have to pump a little bit of your favorite facial wash into your hand and mix in an equal amount of grains before using it on your face. I love this product because it makes your face feel clean. It gets your face smoother than any scrub that I have ever tried, but will not dry you out at all. Not to mention, this bottle lasts forever. Since you're not supposed to use a scrub everyday, I've had this bottle for over a year and am just now beginning to hit the bottom.

This was the product I was using when I thought of coming up with a list of my miracle beauty products. As soon as I put this gel under my eyes in the morning, any puffiness that I have is instantly gone, literally within two seconds. It seriously will never cease to amaze me how it takes my tired, swollen eyes and makes them bright and perky.

I have heard everyone under the sun talk about how amazing this product is, but I never tried it until earlier this summer. And I have to say, I'm hooked! I put this on in the morning over a regular moisturizer and notice that in no time, my pores are filled in and my skin is super soft. It makes applying make up on top of it so easy because you don't have to worry about making sure foundation doesn't get caught in any lines or that your makeup looks caked on.

What beauty products do you swear by? I'm always looking to try out new products!

{wanting}, wanting, wanting this perfume. How many times is too many times to go to Sephora and just keep trying it on before I cave and purchase it?

{dreaming} of the day when I can get one of these prints made of me. Inslee can do no wrong in my book!

{counting down} until I can travel here + here after graduation.
